Booking & Availability

Yes! MoonLake Cottage sits directly on Lake Erie in Port Maitland, Ontario. The front porch faces the lake with unobstructed water views. You can see and hear the lake from the main bedrooms.

MoonLake Cottage has stunning Lake Erie views but does not have a private dock. However, there is a public park with a boat launch within 100 metres of the property — perfect for kayaking, fishing, and getting on the water. The shoreline at this location is natural and rocky rather than sandy.

Yes! MoonLake Cottage is pet-friendly. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Please let us know in advance if you're bringing a furry friend.

Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage. Guests may smoke outdoors on the property.

Check-In & Check-Out

Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available depending on the schedule — please inquire through Airbnb.

We use a self-check-in system. Detailed instructions, including the door code, will be sent to you through Airbnb before your arrival. No need to coordinate with anyone — arrive at your convenience after 3:00 PM.

Yes, fresh towels and hotel-quality bed linens are provided for every stay. We also provide basic toiletries and a starter supply of kitchen essentials.

Location & Getting There

MoonLake Cottage is located at 898 Port Maitland Road, Port Maitland, Ontario. Port Maitland is a small village at the mouth of the Grand River, where it meets Lake Erie.

MoonLake Cottage is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours from Toronto, depending on traffic. Take the QEW toward Hamilton, then follow Highway 3 west toward Dunnville, and then south to Port Maitland.

Hamilton is approximately 1.5 hours away via Highway 6 South to Caledonia, then Highway 54 to Dunnville and south to Port Maitland.

Yes! Dunnville Town Centre is approximately 5–8 minutes away and has grocery stores, a LCBO, pharmacy, and other shops. We recommend doing a grocery run before arriving at the cottage to stock up for your stay.

Haldimand War Memorial Hospital is located in Dunnville, approximately 10 minutes from the cottage. For non-emergency care, there are walk-in clinics in Dunnville as well.

Activities & Surroundings

Yes! Lake Erie is one of the warmest of the Great Lakes and is popular for swimming in summer. The water temperature typically reaches 20–24°C (68–75°F) from late June through August. There is a public park and shoreline access within walking distance of the cottage.

Absolutely — Port Maitland is one of Ontario's best fishing spots. The Grand River mouth, just steps from the cottage, is famous for walleye, perch, bass, and salmon. Boat launches are available nearby, and local fishing charters operate out of Port Maitland Marina.

There's plenty to do: fishing and kayaking on Lake Erie and the Grand River, cycling along the Friendship Trail, exploring Dunnville's shops and restaurants, visiting Rock Point Provincial Park (20 min away), and watching spectacular Lake Erie sunsets right from the porch. In winter, ice fishing is popular on the lake.

Dunnville (5–8 min away) has a good selection of restaurants, cafés, and a Tim Hortons. Port Dover (about 35 min east) is known for its excellent fish and chips restaurants right on the lake. We recommend picking up groceries and cooking in — the fully equipped kitchen makes it easy and enjoyable.

Summer (June–August) is peak season with warm water, long days, and the best weather for outdoor activities. Fall (September–October) offers stunning foliage, excellent fishing, and fewer crowds. Spring (April–May) is peaceful and great for birdwatching. Winter is quiet and cozy — ideal for ice fishing and a peaceful retreat from the city.

Pricing & Fees

A one-time cleaning fee of $180 CAD applies to every booking. This covers professional cleaning of the entire cottage between guests.

Yes, a pet fee of $100 CAD applies per booking if you are bringing a pet. This helps cover the additional cleaning required after furry guests.

Yes, a refundable security deposit of $250 CAD is required for all bookings. The deposit is collected at the time of payment and will be returned in full on the day of checkout, provided the property is left in good condition, no damage has occurred, and all house rules have been followed. If any damage or additional cleaning is required, you will be notified within 48 hours of checkout with an itemized breakdown. For full details, please review our Terms & Conditions.

MoonLake Cottage uses dynamic pricing, which means nightly rates vary based on the season, day of the week, local events, and demand. Summer weekends and holiday periods are priced higher. You can always check the current rate for your dates on our booking page.
